At least four individuals, including a child, lost their lives following the touch down of strong tornadoes in Oklahoma that caused significant damage to cities such as Sulphur and Marietta. The National Weather Service confirmed EF-3 tornadoes struck both areas during late Saturday night into early Sunday morning’s severe weather outbreak which affected at least 17 towns across North Texas, leaving a trail of destruction behind. Governor Kevin Stitt declared an emergency in twelve counties due to the aftermath caused by the storm and toured Sulphur where some buildings were reduced to rubble as crews worked on clearing debris and assessing damage from fallen power lines that downed roads. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management reported over 30 injuries, including those discovered at a bar in Sulphur, with more likely expected since reports are still being gathered regarding casualties. As cleanup efforts continue across the affected areas, Red Cross shelters accommodate displaced families and officials vow to assist in rebuilding as the focus turns towards relief and recovery following this severe weather outbreak that caused unprecedented devastation.
