A woman lost her life in Armonk, Westchester County when a tree fell onto her car during Wednesday’s fierce storm, police revealed. The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m., as the victim was driving northbound on Route 128 between School Street and Leisure Farm Drive. North Castle Police Department and Westchester County police are currently investigating this tragic event.
The powerful nor’easter that hit New York City, Long Island, northeastern New Jersey, and coastal Westchester brought strong winds that caused tree limbs and power lines to come down as well. The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of up to 58 miles per hour in Mamaroneck during the storm’s peak intensity.
Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident; another elderly woman died when a falling tree crushed her car while she waited at a stoplight in Collegeville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon as reported by FOX29 Philadelphia. The impacts of the nor’easter will continue through Thursday and into Friday for areas experiencing heavy snowfall and sleet showers across northern New England and northeastern New York state.
Strong winds with gusts reaching 60-70 mph are expected to persist throughout Thursday, increasing the likelihood of further power outages in these regions. This story is still developing; stay tuned for more updates from FOX5 News as they become available.
