Eight hospitalized after bus-SUV collision in Westchester County; Medical emergency suspected for SUV driver

Eight individuals, including five students, were taken to hospitals following a collision between a school bus and a SUV in Westchester County on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 9:30 am near the intersection of Route 132 and Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown. According to authorities, a black Hummer collided with the school bus during this time. Both drivers were transported for treatment at hospitals, although it remains unknown the severity of their injuries at present. Preliminary investigations suggest that the SUV driver may have experienced some sort of medical issue preceding the collision, and this detail is still under review as department personnel further examine evidence from the scene. As a result of the accident, Route 132 between Barger Street and Wildwoods Street in Yorktown was temporarily closed while emergency responders tended to those involved and cleared debris from the roadway. The police have since withdrawn an earlier statement that suggested the SUV driver may have suffered some sort of medical issue prior to the accident, as this information appears to be erroneous due to a miscommunication within their department’s ranks.
