NEW YORK – The New York Giants have announced the tragic passing of former offensive tackle Korey Cunningham at the age of just 28. Emergency services responded to a residence in Clifton, New Jersey on Friday afternoon following reports of an unconscious man, and while the cause of death is currently unknown, RLS Media has reported that it appears Cunningham was found dead at his home.
The Giants released a statement mourning their former player’s loss, describing him as “a vital part” of the team’s locker room spirit and camaraderie. The club expressed its sympathies to Cunningham’s family, friends, and past colleagues.
Cunningham was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft following an impressive stint as a star left tackle at the University of Cincinnati. During his rookie year with the Cardinals, he made six starts before being traded to the New England Patriots ahead of the 2019 season. He spent two years in Foxborough and then joined the Giants for their most recent campaign but did not feature last term due to injury concerns.
Cunningham played a total of 31 NFL games during his short career, starting on six occasions as he endeavoured to make an impact at both right guard and tackle positions within his various teams’ offenses over the course of four seasons in the league.
