Hunter Biden’s Lawyers Threaten Fox News With Defamation Suit Over False Allegations

Lawyers representing Hunter Biden have announced their intention to sue Fox News “imminently” over what they claim are false allegations made against the former vice president’s son. The legal action follows a similar settlement between Dominion Voting Systems and Fox, which agreed to pay almost $800 million in defamation claims related to its coverage of election fraud during the 2020 presidential race. In April this year Biden’s attorneys sent letters threatening legal proceedings against Fox News over what they described as “disinformation” about their client. The new move has been sparked by a revelation that FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, whose allegations were cited on air during the network’s coverage of Hunter Biden in 2019 and early last year, was indicted for making false statements to federal agents regarding his contacts with members of President Joe Biden’s family. “The recent indictment of FBI informant Alexander Smirnov has exposed the conspiracy of disinformation that has been fueled by Fox,” said Hunter Biden’s lawyer Mark Geragos in a statement, adding: “We plan on holding them accountable.” The letter demands corrections and retractions including on-air statements from Sean Hannity, Jesse Watters and Maria Bartiromo over “debunked allegations” regarding the source’s credibility. It also calls for Fox to remove its six-part mock trial series called “The Trial of Hunter Biden,” which aired in October 2021. The legal action follows news that Hunter Biden is facing criminal trials this summer, with his first gun charges case starting on June 3 and an August date expected for his tax fraud proceedings.
