PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLANVIA – In an unexpected turn of events, Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition that causes facial paralysis. The All-Star player revealed during the postgame press conference after scoring 50 points in Game 3 against the New York Knicks that he had first noticed symptoms before their play-in tournament matchup against the Miami Heat on April 17th. Embiid described experiencing migraines but dismissed them as nothing until seeking medical attention due to feeling unwell overall. “My body was just not feeling it,” said Embiid, who wore sunglasses throughout the press conference and has been doing so during the entire series against the Knicks. The condition affects his left side of face, causing issues with both mouth movement and vision in that area. Despite this setback, Embiid remains determined to push through and not let it become an excuse for poor performance on court. “It’s unfortunate,” he said, “but I’m going to keep fighting through anything.” The Knicks currently lead the series 2-1 with Game 4 scheduled for Sunday in Philadelphia. There is no known timeline as yet regarding how long Embiid may take to recover from Bell’s palsy.
