LAS VEGAS (AP) — Wyatt Johnston scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Dallas Stars beat the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 on Saturday night, cutting their series deficit to 2-1. After a scoreless first half of sudden death, Johnston fired a high shot from near the goal line after dragging the puck past goaltender Logan Thompson who was in an low position.
Miro Heiskanen also found the back of the net for Dallas and Jake Oettinger made 32 saves throughout the game. The Stars had lost their previous six meetings against Vegas but they outshot them heavily, recording a whopping advantage of high-danger shots at 27 to four during regulation time.
Brayden McNabb and Jack Eichel scored for Vegas with Thompson stopping an impressive career-high 43 attempts on goal by the end of the game. The Golden Knights had led after the first period, but only just as they were trailing in shots taken at that point too – this was a rare occurrence considering their regular season record of leading at the close of play.
Vegas are due to host Game Four in the series on Monday evening.
