Lawler Calls for Congressional Action Against Anti-Semitic Protests on College Campuses Under guise of Israeli Conflict

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) appeared on “Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy” to denounce colleges for tolerating anti-Semitic protests under the guise of the Israel-Palestine conflict. This criticism follows a nationwide trend of student demonstrations, known as “Gaza Solidarity,” calling upon universities to either cut ties or end support for Israel at elite campuses such as Columbia, Yale, MIT and others. Lawler argued that Congress must intervene because university administrators are failing in their responsibility to protect Jewish students from antisemitic rhetoric aimed at intimidating them. Gowdy also raised concerns about the use of taxpayer funds or public money supporting colleges that either cannot or will not condemn “racist, anti-Semitic activities.” Lawler proposed his Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act which would remove federal funding from universities who fail to define and enforce anti-Semetic behavior. He argued that if these protests were directed at Blacks, Hispanics, or members of the LGBTQ+ community, colleges would have acted immediately but are allowing them because they believe it is related to Israel’s conflict with Palestine when in reality, it is rooted in antisemitism.
