Major Methamphetamine Bust: 200kg Liquid Drug Hidden in Diesel Tank En Route to Dallas

200 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine worth $10 million on the streets were discovered in a semi-truck’s diesel tank while it was en route from Mexico to Dallas. According to Eduardo Chavez, Special Agent in Charge of DEA North Texas, this is part of an evolution in how drugs are being smuggled into the US across the border as cartels become increasingly inventive in their trafficking methods. The liquid methamphetamine found was mixed with other inert substances such as gasoline to conceal it before later conversion into solid form during processing, he added. This new technique follows earlier tactics used by drug lords that involved hiding drugs inside soft drinks and sparkling water bottles made from clear material to avoid suspicion of being anything else than beverages. In a recent case, twelve members affiliated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel were sentenced to federal prison terms for their involvement in this latest shipment. Francisco Javier Rodriguez Arreola, 46-years old and originally from Mexico, received a sentence of forty years after being arrested while attempting an unlawful reentry into the US following deportation from his homeland in late January 2021. The DEA has warned that fentanyl remains their most significant issue at present since it is deadliest drug compared to methamphetamine, with trafficking organizations preferring legal entry points such as commercial vehicle and private passenger car traffic when shipping illicit goods due to economic benefits and less risk of loss during transportation. This investigation was led by the FBI in collaboration with Texas DPS, Dallas PD, Fort Worth PD, DEA, among other agencies involved.
