Massive Loss of Life in Gaza After Israel Air Strike; Baby, Toddler Among CasualtiesThis looks like a good start for the title, but can you add something about the total death toll?

Editor’s Note: This story contains graphic content. At least 20 people, including a baby and toddler, have died following an Israeli air strike in Rafah, Gaza overnight into Monday according to hospital officials. The deceased were brought to Abu Youssef Al Najjar Hospital in Rafah after the attack as their loved ones gathered for final farewells. A video filmed by CNN shows dozens of distraught people including men, women and children crowded around body bags laid on the ground in the hospital courtyard. Relatives can be seen crouching over bodies caressing them before a baby’s head appears from one bag as its grieving mother wails: “My whole family has perished.” Mahmoud Abu Taha, carrying his 1-year-old nephew’s lifeless body, said the child was born after his parents had tried for children for ten years. He added that most of those killed were displaced women and children while some who had previously been driven out Khan Yunis as a result of an earlier Israeli air strike had also perished in Rafah during this attack. “They were sleeping in their homes when the airstrike hit at around 12:20 am… Nowhere is safe, the entire Gaza Strip is a target,” he told CNN. Another relative said that ten members of his family had been killed including those originally displaced from Khan Yunis who fled to Rafah for safety and were now also dead following this latest attack on their new home. “They want to destroy us all, women children… This generation they’re looking for,” he added in a plea directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “We want peace, enough Arab bloodshed.” A five-day old baby named Ghaith Abu Rayya was killed as witnesses looked on at his open coffin before lifting it up to reveal the dismembered remains of his infant body. Witnesses then opened another bag containing a 33 year old man called Ramy, who they said had been Ghaith’s father and wailed in distress: “We are all alone… Nobody cares about us.” The death toll in Gaza now stands at over 34,000 as five-days of intense Israeli military operations continue. Due to lack of access by international media outlets, CNN cannot independently verify the Ministry of Health’s casualty figures which do not differentiate between deaths among civilians and Hamas fighters.
