Mitchell Stripped of Committee Assignments, Excluded from Caucus Meetings After Burglary Arrest

Democratic Senator Nicole Mitchell from Minnesota will be stripped of her committee assignments and excluded from caucus meetings following her arrest last week on suspicion of burglary at her stepmother’s house. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, a Democrat, released an official statement acquired by FOX9 Minneapolis asserting that though the occurrence is tragic, “there are still questions to be answered.” Mitchell was charged with first-degree burglary on Tuesday after being detained early Monday morning at her stepmother’s house. Although Mitchell acknowledged breaking and entering via a window for investigators, she claimed it was only because she wanted to retrieve items of sentimental value belonging to her late father as well as photographs and other belongings from an ill loved one whom she believed had stopped communicating with her after the death of her dad while refusing to give Mitchell these things. Senate Republicans filed a complaint against Mitchell earlier in regard to the event, before lawmakers reconvened on Wednesday which subsequently led them forcing a vote for immediately launching an investigation into this matter. The Republican party attempted to expedite an ethics probe concerning Democratic Senator Nicole Mitchell who is currently facing felony burglary charges. Previously, she was working as a meteorologist with KSTP-TV and Minnesota Public Radio besides holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Air National Guard while representing District 47 since her election to the state Senate back in 2022.
