Senator Markwayne Mullin from Oklahoma joins ‘Fox News Live’ for an interview discussing President Biden’s recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu ahead of fresh negotiations to establish a ceasefire. The conversation also touches upon growing concerns among Israeli officials that the International Criminal Court (ICC) could soon issue arrest warrants against senior government figures, including Netanyahu himself and other top officials over allegations relating to Israel’s response during last year’s Gaza conflict. These accusations relate primarily to alleged charges of an excessive military crackdown in October 2018 following Hamas attacks on Israeli territory as well as the prevention of aid being provided into Gaza Strip by international relief organisations. Should arrest warrants be issued against either group, there may potential for difficulties arising around their movement and travel restrictions imposed upon them due to this legal action. Furthermore, any such sanctions could also potentially extend towards Hamas leaders too according to reports from the New York Times. Israel’s Foreign Minister Katz has previously spoken out about these concerns stating that “We expect the court to refrain from issuing arrest warrants against senior Israeli political and security officials.” The ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan declared in October 2018 that there was legal jurisdiction for investigating potential crimes committed within Gaza, with Israel being a non-member state of this international organisation. This latest development could potentially have serious ramifications not just affecting Israeli authorities but also any democracies engaged against ‘savage terrorism and wanton aggression,’ which Foreign Minister Katz labelled as “dangerous precedent.” As Benjamin Netanyahu asserted on his social media account, “Under my leadership Israel will never accept any attempt by the ICC to undermine its inherent right of self-defense,” with warnings also issued around a potential surge in anti-Semitic sentiment.
