Multiple counties in north and central Texas experienced damage caused by reported tornadoes that struck during afternoon hours on Friday. The National Weather Service will assess the strength of a twister that touched down in rural areas of Navarro County. So far, authorities have not received any reports of injuries; however, significant destruction was recorded near Frost where some residents encountered a tornado’s path while others nearby suffered severe damage to their properties but fortunately were unharmed. In Kaufman Country, excessive rainfall resulting from heavy downpours brought on flash flooding in certain areas with up to six inches of water falling within the affected locations prompting locals and drivers passing by roads besieged with muddy waters. More precipitation over the coming days may result in further flood-related issues. In Corsicana, school authorities postponed all scheduled baseball and softball matches owing to poor weather conditions expected throughout the evening hours. The National Weather Service has already allowed tornado warnings for Hill County and Van Zandt Country to expire while continuing its survey of damages incurred by other affected areas such as Ennis, where authorities reported minor flooding on roadways with a vehicle being swept away into nearby creeks after heavy rainfall. In Waco, several structures have been damaged following afternoon storms, and the City of Irving postponed an evening musical concert due to severe weather risks in the area. Storm chaser Nick Busby captured footage from near Penelope revealing a possible tornado as it formed closer towards Ellis County but eventually weakened upon approaching Corsicana’s vicinity where storm systems are moving rapidly. The Tornado Warning has been moved east, and people living in Hill and Navarro Counties have been advised to seek shelter immediately while the threat of hailstorms continues across North Texas as severe weather conditions persist into Saturday afternoon with an increased likelihood for squall lines that could bring high winds, heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and a few spin-up tornadoes along its leading edge.
