South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has defended herself after facing backlash for revealing in an upcoming memoir, “No Going Back,” set to be released on May 7th, that she killed a puppy named Cricket due to its behavior. The Guardian reported the excerpt from her book where she admitted taking the female dog aged fourteen months near her farm’s gravel pit and shooting it because of its actions which included killing several chickens and being “less than worthless” and “untrainable.” Noem continued in the memoir that another unpleasant job needed to be done, describing how she also killed a mean-natured goat at this site. Many expressed outrage from Democrats such as Ryan Busse, who is running for governor of Montana on behalf of his party, and Republicans like Meghan McCain via social media platforms after learning about Noem’s action two decades ago which the Democrat found repugnant given they knew birddogs. Republican commentator, Ms.McCain posted: “All I will distinctly think about Kristi Noem now is that she murdered a puppy who was ‘acting up’ -which is obviously cruel and insane.” Consequent discussions sparked contenders fear her move would impinge negatively on her political career as some believe it could damage the potential vice presidential candidate’s standing, but Gov. Kristi Noem in an X post justified sharing more stories of herself through thick or thin while also stating that she understands why people are upset about this particular story from twenty years ago concerning Cricket, one of their working dogs on her ranch.
