Two North Texas high schools that experienced shooting incidents last week will reopen their doors for classes tomorrow (Monday). Bowie High School in Arlington closed down its operations from Thursday through Friday following a tragic incident where 17-year-old Julian Howard allegedly killed his classmate, Etavion Barnes, on campus. The accused is currently behind bars and faces murder charges with bail set at $750,000. Authorities are still investigating the motive for this heinous act of violence that stunned the community deeply. Arlington Independent School District has vowed to provide additional security measures in place tomorrow as well as counseling services for students and staff who might require support after experiencing such a traumatic event on their school premises. Similarly, Roosevelt High School in Dallas also shut down operations last Friday due to what authorities termed “a credible threat.” The closure came shortly after two students were injured when they became victims of an off-campus drive-by shooting as the bus was taking them back home following a football practice session on Thursday evening. Authorities are yet to arrest or release any description about this particular incident’s suspect, and investigations continue in earnest. In response to these incidents, Dallas Independent School District is initiating more intensive safety procedures. Tomorrow at all of its schools will witness an “enhanced school arrival and re-entry process” according to the district website. This move comes after a student was able to sneak through working metal detectors earlier this month in Wilmer Hutchins High School, armed with his firearm. He allegedly discharged it inside the premises of the institution, injuring another classmate’s leg. The school authorities have announced that they will be retraining all staff on how to properly conduct backpack searches and revamping schedules so more personnel can monitor students during arrival and dismissal periods for increased safety measures at schools in Dallas Independent School District.
