“Pikesville High School Faces Backlash After Principal Eiswert’s AI-generated Hate Speech Leak” or “Darien’s AI Hoax Sparks Racial Tension at Pikesville High School, Teachers Investigated”.

A high school athletic director in Maryland has been arrested after allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to create racist and antisemitic audio in the voice of his boss, according to authorities. Dazhon Darien, 31, who serves as an athletic director at Pikesville High School, was charged with stalking, theft, disruption of school operations, and retaliation against a witness after creating the fake recording to get back at Principal Eric Eiswert for investigating potential mishandling of school funds. When Baltimore County police were first informed about the audio on January 17th, they launched an investigation which concluded that both forensic analysis conducted by UC Berkley and input from federal officials confirm it was a fake recording. The AI-generated voice in the clip purported to be Eiswert’s and made derogatory remarks about African American students and Jewish individuals while conversing with an assistant principal at PHS, according to court documents obtained by The Baltimore Banner. As reported earlier by FOX News Digital, authorities claim that Eiswert faced hateful messages on social media platforms as well as numerous phone calls after the audio was circulated among teachers and faculty members before being widely shared online. In response, a school spokesperson announced an investigation into other educators who participated in spreading the recording’s contents further than Darien himself had done so initially. The superintendent of Baltimore County schools mentioned at the time that her staff and administrator is determined to prevent acts motivated by hate from affecting their community while upholding values of kindness, acceptance, and respect for all students regardless of race or religion. Following his court appearance on Thursday, Darien was released after posting a $5000 unsecured bond.
Can you please provide more information about the impact this fake audio had on Pikesville High School’s staff and students?
