Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Stewart Dies after Suffering Medical Emergency at South LA Station

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has passed away after suffering a medical emergency at the South LA station where he worked. The death of 41-year-old Jonathan Stewart, who joined the department as a custody assistant in 2006 and most recently served as a field training officer, is currently being investigated to determine its cause.
Stewart was found unresponsive by his colleagues at around 4pm on Saturday afternoon, prompting an ambulance request from the South LA station where he worked. Sadly, Stewart passed away before medical assistance could arrive. His death has left a void in the department’s ranks and shocked those who knew him well.
The LASD described Stewart as “a valued member of our family” whose loss is being keenly felt by his colleagues at this difficult time. He was respected and highly regarded for his unwavering commitment to serving the South Los Angeles community, where he had spent a decade working alongside his peers and supervisors.
Stewart’s widow and three children have been left bereaved by his passing; condolences have flooded in from across law enforcement as news of Stewart’s death spreads. A procession was held to take the deputy’s body from South LA station to the medical examiner’s office, while further details about a memorial service for him are still being confirmed at this time.
The precise cause and circumstances surrounding his passing have yet to be established; as of writing, Stewart’s case is listed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s website as “open”.
