The Supreme Court has once again denied a request from former Trump adviser Peter Navarro to avoid serving prison time for contempt of Congress related to his refusal to provide documents and testify during an investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. In March, Chief Justice John Roberts turned down a similar plea made by Navarro’s lawyers, who argued that he was not at risk of fleeing and raised substantial legal questions in his appeal against conviction. The federal appeals court had previously dismissed these arguments, as did the Supreme Court when it denied Navarro’s request last month with an opinion from Roberts. In rejecting Navarro’s most recent plea to remain free while appealing, made directly to Justice Neil Gorsuch on March 18, there was no explanation given by the court in their denial of Monday (April 4). The Supreme Court’s decision means that Navarro has now reported to prison following his four-month sentence for contempt.
