The Rise of Female Sports and Jenny Nguyen’s Franchising Expansion for All-Women Bar, The Sports Bra

Jenny Nguyen is the owner of The Sports Bra, a bar dedicated to showing only women’s sports in Portland, Oregon that opened two years ago with the mission “to make great food and delicious drinks, and provide a space that supports, empowers, and promotes girls and women in sports and in the community.” Nguyen recently announced plans for The Sports Bra franchise model to expand nationwide. She shared that she had no idea of its impact when it first opened but now realizes how much more than just her friends’ space means. Over 200 interested people have contacted Nguyen, and funding from a foundation created by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian will aid in the expansion process. Women’s sports are currently experiencing an all-time high level of interest due to athletes like Paige Bueckers breaking records for women’s basketball, WNBA draft ratings exceeding those for men’s games and record attendance at volleyball matches as well as football stadium events featuring female players such as the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
