Union Pacific Freight Train Derails in Oregon, Closes Steel Bridge

A freight train operated by Union Pacific has derailed in Portland, Oregon on Monday morning, with two empty carriages fully toppling off the tracks and four others partially coming loose. As a result of this incident, authorities have closed down the Steel Bridge which is an historic vertical lift bridge that was built back in 1912. Thankfully, there are no reports of any injuries at present time. Union Pacific themselves provided an update stating that around eight o’clock this morning CDT, five train cars had derailed near to where the steel bridge meets its eastern end within Portland itself; these particular carriages were all empty and cleanup efforts have already begun whilst investigations into what caused the incident continue in parallel. This article was written from Los Angeles.
