YONKERS, New York – Police in Yonkers arrested two individuals at a Ramada Inn shelter on Tuesday afternoon after one of the migrant residents reportedly became violent and tried to strike officers when they arrived at the scene. The incident was captured on camera by bodycams worn by police officers.
According to footage released by the Yonkers Police Department, officers responded promptly following a 911 call reporting an unruly man behaving violently towards others in the hotel lobby. Upon arrival, they handcuffed Arnal Kent, age 35. In video taken during their attempted arrest of another woman identified as Yainilet Hernandez, police waited for calm to descend before approaching and subduing her while trying to detain her. During a subsequent scuffle that involved several officers tackling her onto the ground, it emerged later that one officer had sustained injuries to his knee and wrist which required him being placed on administrative leave by law enforcement officials due to complications with both incidents causing bodily harm.
Kent was charged with menacing, disorderly conduct, obstruction of governmental administration, and resisting arrest following the incident; he has since been released pending a court appearance at an unspecified date in time. Hernandez faced charges for assault, obstructing official business, and resistance to arrest after attempting to hinder police from apprehending Kent earlier on Tuesday afternoon; she was remanded into custody as bail was set by the courts handling her case at that location of proceedings under New York state’s jurisdiction.
The NYC Department of Homeless Services relocated approximately 250 adults and children to this Ramada Inn in Yonkers last May, with operations overseen jointly between DHS and Westhab; neither organization has responded publicly when contacted by Fox News about allegations made by Kent regarding mistreatment towards himself and other migrant occupants staying at the facility since their arrival nearly a year ago.
The police department in Yonkers claims to have been called out over 130 times during the past twelve months due to issues arising from incidents involving asylum-seekers housed inside this Ramada Inn; all such calls were reportedly made through emergency services lines (911) based within New York City’s jurisdiction.
