Samuel Bissonnette, a 33-year-old Canadian truck driver, expressed his gratitude towards the community in Virginia for coming together to find his lost dog named Denver at a rest stop. As he traveled from Georgia to Canada, Bissonette stopped near Blacksburg, Virginia and allowed both of his Belgian shepherds, Denver and Dallas, to run around while he rode his bike. However, Denver saw a deer and ran after it, never returning. After hours of searching with no luck, Bissonnette had to continue on his route but created a Facebook page in hopes that someone would find the dog. Multiple people reported seeing Denver, including reports stating that he was hit by a car before running away again. For two weeks, Bissonnette visited Brush Mountain repeatedly until one day when he grilled food for Denver with the hope of attracting him back to his truck. The tactic worked and although Denver ran off initially, he returned permanently this time around. After recovering in Canada for a few days, Denver is now back on the road with Bissonnette thanks to the help of devoted locals who joined the search effort. “The people were so amazing,” said Bissonnette. “I got so many devoted people looking.”
