RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Three individuals sustained injuries in a series of collisions involving a driver traveling against traffic flow on multiple freeways in Riverside at around 2 am this morning. The police authorities took the reckless motorist into custody following these accidents caused due to his impaired judgment while driving under the influence (DUI).
According to reports, California Highway Patrol officers received several complaints about a driver heading southbound on northbound lanes of State Route 215 (SR-215) freeway. The wrong-way motorist collided with two vehicles parked at the transition road from Interstate 60 (I-60) to SR-215’s southward course after ignoring signs cautioning him about traveling against traffic flow, according to authorities.
After this incident, the driver continued driving on I-60 and reportedly involved another three automobiles before taking flight on foot post accidents happened yet again. Three people were injured in these crashes as a result of the multiple collisions that occurred during the early hours today morning. Rescue teams had to extricate at least one individual from their car after this accident caused considerable damage and chaos.
The police authorities apprehended the suspect on nearby Day Street, where he was taken into custody following these incidents involving his impaired judgment while driving under the influence (DUI). The reckless driver is now facing charges of felony DUI as well as traveling in wrong-directions/side against authorized direction by local rules (WVR – Wrong Way Driver) on a public highway.
The two individuals who sustained major injuries during these accidents were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency medical treatment, but none of their wounds was considered life-threatening at this time as per reports from the police authorities in Riverside County.
