Oklahoma City authorities revealed on Tuesday that a 10-year-old boy discovered his entire family, including both parents and three brothers, fatally shot in their home the previous day. Police believe Jonathan Candy, aged 42, killed his wife Lindsay Candy, sons Dylan Candy (aged 18), Ethan Candy (aged 14) and Lucas Candy (aged 12), before turning the gun on himself. According to Sergeant Gary Knight, officers were alerted when the surviving child called emergency services upon waking up from sleep to find his relatives’ bodies scattered throughout their southwest Oklahoma City residence in what he described as “carnage”. The police officer added that there was no sign of any domestic disturbances at Candy’s house and it remains a mystery why Jonathan Candy targeted each member of the family. Knight explained, “At some point [Jonathan] armed himself with a gun; he shot her multiple times killing her… At that point, he systematically went through the home shooting and killing the children.” The surviving child was unharmed physically but emotionally affected by the tragedy, which is being investigated further as police seek to understand what led Jonathan Candy to commit such an atrocious act.
