Rewriting Article: White House Speaks on Reported Role of India Intelligence Service in Assassination Plots
The Biden administration has expressed serious concerns regarding the alleged involvement of an Indian intelligence officer in two assassination plots, one targeting a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and another resulting in the shooting death of a Sikh activist. The Washington Post reported that this individual was directly involved in both cases; India’s foreign ministry has responded by stating that such comments are “unwarranted” while they investigate, adding that New Delhi is taking the matter seriously. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that authorities were treating these incidents with utmost seriousness and would continue to raise their concerns about this issue. The involvement of an Indian government official in a plot against Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is also a dual citizen of the US and Canada, was reported by American law enforcement agencies back in November. At that time, India expressed concern over these allegations but denied any connection to the assassination attempt. The case has created complications for both countries as they seek closer ties amid shared concerns about China’s growing power; however, Canadian authorities have also accused Indian agents of potentially being involved in another murder last year involving Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist. India strongly rejected these allegations made by Ottawa.
