The individual responsible for taking Aaron Lowe’s life will serve an extended prison sentence. Buk M. Buk, who was convicted of murdering Lowe and attempted homicide after a shooting incident in 2021 that resulted in the death of the Utah football player and injured another person at a house party in Salt Lake City, received consecutive sentences of fifteen years to life for the former charge and three years to life for the latter. This means Buk will spend an extensive period behind bars before being eligible for release. During sentencing proceedings, he expressed remorse, stating, “I’m sorry to the Aaron Lowe family. I’m sorry to my family. I was lost, and I didn’t know any better. I was 19 years old.” Unfortunately for society at large, Buk will have ample time in prison to reflect on his actions. The tragedy of Lowe’s death is heightened by the fact that it occurred less than a year after another Utah football player, Ty Jordan, died accidentally from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Prior to his untimely demise, Lowe had appeared in twenty games for the Utes during his third season with the team.
