During this operation, the suspect opened fire and killed three task force officers, one of whom was a deputy sheriff, while injuring four Charlotte police officers, including one who sustained critical injuries, as well as another U.S. Marshals task force officer. Police believe that two shooters may have been involved in this incident, with both persons of interest currently being questioned at the station.
