PHOENIX – Los Angeles Dodgers’ players Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages both hit crucial two-run doubles in a dominant fifth inning as the team beat Arizona Diamondbacks by an eight to four margin on Monday night. Will Smith also contributed with a solo home run, helping the Dodgers secure their seventh win out of eight games played so far this season. This game saw an extraordinary feat for the franchise, which hadn’t happened since 2006 – no strikeouts were recorded by any player throughout the entire matchup!
The Dodgers took control in the fifth inning after Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman both drew walks followed by Smith joining them. Hernández then smashed a ball into right-center field, scoring two runs as it bounced over the wall for a ground rule double. Three batters later, Pages hit another hard shot down the third base line off Scott McGough’s pitch that brought in both Smith and Hernandez to widen their lead further.
Eugenio Suárez managed to score one run through an RBI single during Arizona Diamondbacks’ fifth innings; Randal Grichuk added a sacrifice fly, while Lourdes Gurriel Jr scored from a wild pitch that reduced the gap between both teams’ scores to 6-4.
Dodgers lefty James Paxton conceded four runs and six hits in five innings with five walks and struck out four batters. Los Angeles pulled ahead by two points during their second inning as Kiké Hernández hit an RBI double, while Andy Pages managed a sacrifice fly; Ohtani was at the plate with bases loaded but grounded into a double play instead of scoring more runs for his team.
Arizona left-hander Tommy Henry gave up two runs and five hits in four innings. For this encounter’s rematch between these opposing sides, Torey Lovullo’s Diamondbacks will send LHP Jordan Montgomery (1-1, 2.77 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday night as Dodgers counter with RHP Landon Knack (1-1, 3.27 ERA).
The last time both teams met was during Arizona’s surprise playoff run in 2021 when they defeated Los Angeles three times out of their National League Division Series encounter.
