The popular sports media outlet, The Athletic, reported that Ezekiel Elliott has officially signed a one-year deal with his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. This news comes after widespread reports of an agreement between both parties on Monday. Although the specific terms of the contract have not been disclosed yet, it is clear that Elliott will be returning to play for the Cowboys once again. The running back expressed excitement about being back and ready to get to work in a video posted by the team’s official social media account alongside an announcement stating “He’s back for seconds #FeedZeke.” This move seems to have gained support from Micah Parsons, who took to his own Instagram page to welcome Elliott with open arms. The Cowboys currently boast a crowded running backs room that includes Royce Freeman, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, Snoop Conner and Nathaniel Peat; however, it appears as though Elliott will be starting for the team this season. Nonetheless, Jerry Jones hinted at potential further moves in regards to his running back corps, citing examples of teams that have won Super Bowls after making midseason trades or acquisitions involving running backs. In a post-draft news conference, Jones also highlighted Elliott’s positive influence on the team and expressed optimism about how he will contribute both on and off the field for Dallas this season. As an interesting factoid to note here is that in addition to Smith and Dorsett ahead of him as the franchise’s all-time leading rushers, Zeke was actually selected by the Cowboys with their fourth overall pick back during the 2016 NFL Draft; a move which has certainly paid off for both parties involved.
