FBI Director Wray’s Warning on Growing Chinese Threat Amidst Huang Ping Controversy

Christopher Wray, director of the FBI, has repeatedly warned that the threat posed by China to the US and its allies is growing and requires serious attention. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Philadelphia’s Democratic mayor defended a recent meeting with Huang Ping, a Chinese diplomat who praised the ruling Communist Party (CCP) in China. In August 2021, Huang denied that China was targeting Muslim Uyghurs and called them “great.” Both Trump and Biden administrations have labelled such actions as genocide against this population since 2017. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum has also made similar claims. In addition to praising the CCP, Huang amplified Xi Jinping’s agenda on social media platform X. He met with several Democratic lawmakers in Pennsylvania and university officials as well. These visits come amid growing concerns about China’s presence in various sectors of American society such as academia, government, healthcare, and social media platforms like TikTok that pose threats to US security interests. While some experts suggest addressing these issues is a good policy move, others argue the Biden administration needs to take more proactive measures against Beijing by creating problems for China instead of just responding to them. The White House responded: “President Biden and his Administration handle foreign relations on behalf of the United States.”
