Homeboy Industries Honors “Homegirl Hero” Pamela Diaz at Annual Gala for Criminal Justice Reform and Redemption Services

Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization Homeboy Industries, which aims at providing healing and alternatives for gang life through job training, rehabilitation programs, and support services for formerly incarcerated individuals, honored Pamela Diaz as the “Homegirl Hero” during its annual gala in downtown LA on April 27. In addition to acknowledging inspiring personalities such as Jane Fonda, Rainn Wilson, and Kim Kardashian’s commitment towards criminal justice reform at Lo Máximo event of Homeboy Industries this year, the organization raised funds for its programs that aim to provide hope, training, and support services for gang-involved people who seek redemption from a life riddled with neglect, trauma, violence, inadequate job skills, social stigma, drug abuse, etc. Diaz, who joined Homeboy’s training program after 10 years of being released from prison when her kids were put up for foster care due to financial instability, is now a nurse at Pomona Valley Hospital. The event also featured musical performances by Grammy-Award winning singer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and speaker Lisa Ling who shed light on the fact that justice-involved people are not seen as humans in society due to their past experiences with trauma, addiction, mental health issues, etc. The gala’s proceeds went directly into Homeboy Industries programs for formerly gang-involved individuals seeking redemption and rehabilitation from a life riddled with neglect, violence, drug abuse, social stigma, inadequate job skills, trauma, etc., as mentioned by the organization.
