King Charles III Resumes Public Duties After Cancer Treatment, Visits Cancer Care Center

King Charles III, who revealed his battle with cancer earlier this year, returned to public duties on Tuesday after doctors reportedly expressed optimism about his progress during treatment. The 75-year-old monarch, accompanied by wife Queen Camilla, visited a cancer care center in London where he met patients and staff as part of his first official engagement since announcing his diagnosis in February. Charles has been patron of Macmillan Cancer Support for nearly three decades and was expected to discuss the value of early diagnostics at University College Hospital’s UCH MAC Centre during Tuesday’s visit, which also aimed to highlight innovative research being conducted there. The King largely remained out of public view while undergoing treatment but made a rare appearance on Easter Sunday when he attended church with family members and greeted well-wishers in an impromptu walkabout afterward. Buckingham Palace announced last week that Charles had been cleared by doctors to resume his official duties, although forthcoming events will be modified as necessary to minimize any risks associated with convalescence. It remains unclear whether the King plans to attend June’s Trooping of the Colour in London or D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations taking place that month in Normandy; however, his office has confirmed he intends to welcome Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan for a state visit later this year.
