A property situated in Lawndale attracts notice for its cluttered interior and surrounding yard that is covered with an abundance of garbage. Residents have raised concerns regarding a potential fire hazard as the pest infested site could quickly spread flames almost parallel to the number of creatures swarming around the trash pile. Eddie Trujillo, one such neighbor, stated that the elderly woman residing in this house collects items from nearby places and discards them both within her dwelling space as well as backyard with no room left for further disposal. The debris-filled yard is barely visible underneath these mounds of rubbish; thus posing an enormous danger to not just critters, including rats, possums or cockroaches, but also the neighborhood’s safety at large. Trujillo expressed that officials from various departments such as city authorities, fire department and sheriff’s office have visited this site repeatedly yet failed to resolve it efficiently due to constant transfer of responsibility between these agencies. The City of Lawndale has acknowledged being aware of this issue since 2022; however, the homeowner’s reluctance in granting access remains an impediment towards finding a feasible solution as her assistance for their attempt was denied by her repeatedly. Other neighbors who preferred to remain anonymous have also tried helping out but failed due to stubbornness on part of the lady living here. Despite being kind-hearted, they are worried about this woman’s safety since she is struggling with payments and has no place else to go if evicted from this house owing to mounting debt accruals in light of her unresolved garbage crisis.
