US Soccer Federation and Mexican Football Federation Pull Out of 2027 Women’s World Cup Bid to Focus on Equal Investment in 2031 Edition

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and Mexican Football Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Instead, they plan on focusing all efforts towards a bid for the tournament in 2031 with an emphasis on equal investment as the men’s competition to eliminate disparities between tournaments. The decision leaves two remaining bids from Brazil and a joint effort by Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany vying for hosting rights in 2027. USSF President Cindy Parlow Cone explained that due to the significant undertaking required when organizing such events, additional time will allow them to maximize its impact globally while providing equitable experiences for players, fans, and stakeholders during the Women’s World Cup held in 2031. Mexican Football Federation president Ivar Sisniega added that their experience gained from co-hosting the men’s competition slated to occur two years before would assist Mexico to deliver best possible infrastructure whilst accommodating enthusiastic fans for all participating teams during the Women’s World Cup scheduled in 2031. The announcement of the winning bid will be made at FIFA Congress in May, and this news follows an already crowded international soccer competition schedule across North America from 2025 to 2028 with events such as the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup (in 2025), Men’s World Cup co-hosted by Canada, Mexico & USA (2026) and summer Olympics in Los Angeles scheduled for 2028.
