Beverley Apologizes for ‘Inexcusable’ Actions in NBA Altercation Investigation

In response to an investigation opened by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department following an altercation between NBA player Patrick Beverley and a spectator during a playoff game, Beverley has admitted his actions were “inexcusable”. The incident occurred towards the end of the Milwaukee Bucks’ season-ending loss to the Indiana Pacers on May 2, with Beverley throwing a ball into the crowd which appeared to hit a fan in the head. The police department released a statement confirming officers had completed an initial report and passed it on to detectives, who are currently investigating the incident. Detectives will present the case to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office upon completion of the investigation. Beverley addressed the incident on his podcast, stating that whilst he had been called insulting names throughout his career, the slur hurled at him during the match was something he had never heard before. Whilst acknowledging that the fan’s comments may have played a part in his reaction, Beverley insisted that his actions were still “not acceptable”, adding that he was “better than that”. Bucks coach Doc Rivers expressed disappointment in Beverley’s behaviour, describing it as “not the Milwaukee way or the Bucks way”. The Bucks were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs following their defeat to the Pacers. Beverley, who joined the Bucks from the Philadelphia 76ers in February, is set to become a free agent this offseason.
