Canucks mount stunning comeback against Oilers, take Game 1 lead in playoffs

The Vancouver Canucks managed to overcome a three-goal deficit and defeat the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series. With just five shots on goal in the first period, the Canucks significantly improved in the latter periods, outshooting the Oilers 19-7 in the final two sessions. Elias Lindholm kickstarted the comeback with 2:59 remaining in the second period, followed by J.T. Miller and Nikita Zadorov, who equalized with 6:13 remaining. Zach Hyman scored twice for Edmonton, bringing his total to nine goals in the postseason. However, Conor Garland secured the winning goal for Vancouver with 5:34 left, thanks to a short pass from Dakota Joshua that resulted in a quick succession of three goals in 4:48. This victory puts the Canucks ahead in the series, with Game 2 scheduled for Friday night in Vancouver. The Canucks’ goaltender, Arturs Silovs, stopped 14 shots during the match. The Oilers’ netminder, Stuart Skinner, saved 19 shots. Both teams’ previous series saw Vancouver eliminate Nashville in Game 6 on Friday night, while Edmonton advanced past Los Angeles in five matches after a six-day break.
