Harry’s Frustration Deepens as Royal Family Snubs Him and Invictus Games

Prince Harry’s relationship with the royal family has deteriorated significantly, as evidenced by recent events. Firstly, Harry was informed that he would be unable to meet with his father, King Charles III, due to the king’s busy schedule, despite being in London for the Invictus Games. This snub follows the announcement that Harry’s older brother, Prince William, will replace him as colonel in chief of the Army Air Corps, which Harry previously served in during his time in the British Army. These decisions have left Harry feeling frustrated and deeply wounded by the royal family’s continued intransigence. Andersen, a royal expert, described these actions as “a calculated, even cruel snub” and suggested that Harry is “dead to his father and brother”. Harry has tried to keep a low profile amidst continuing emotional turmoil, but Andersen notes that Harry still cares deeply about the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014. Despite the royal family’s lack of interest in the games, Queen Elizabeth was known to be a big advocate for them, even featuring in a TV commercial promoting them alongside Barack and Michelle Obama in 2016. However, Andersen observes that the current royal family members, such as King Charles III and Princess Kate Middleton, have shown little enthusiasm for the games. Andersen suggests that now could be the right time for the royal family to extend an olive branch towards Harry. However, Fordwich, another royal expert, believes that the royal family’s reluctance to embrace Harry and the Invictus Games is permanent. Modeled after the Warrior Games in the US, the Invictus Games aim to inspire military veterans worldwide as they work to overcome their injuries. Harry’s role in the foundation behind the games ended when he stepped down from royal duties, and the Invictus Games became a separate charity under the patronage of the Prince of Wales. As Harry’s strained relationship with his family continues, Andersen predicts that a true reconciliation may never occur.
