The highly successful “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” franchises are set to receive two new movies, produced by the award-winning trio of Sir Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens. The project, titled “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” will be helmed by “LOTR” veteran Andy Serkis, who famously voiced the infamous character of Gollum. Both Walsh and Boyens will contribute to the script alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. In a joint statement, Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens expressed enthusiasm, stating, “As life long fans of Professor Tolkien’s vast mythology, we are proud to be working with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and the entire team at Warner Bros. On another epic adventure!” The movies are scheduled for release through Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema, owned by CNN’s parent company. Jackson previously achieved a historical feat by directing all three movies of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy simultaneously, earning numerous nominations for prestigious awards such as Oscars, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs. Serkis, who previously worked as the second unit director for Jackson’s “The Hobbit” series, also directed the 2021 film “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.”
