In a recent legal dispute, the owners of Marilyn Monroe’s former Brentwood home have filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles, accusing local officials of engaging in “illegal and unconstitutional conduct” in an attempt to declare the structure a historic-cultural landmark. Brinah Milstein and her husband Roy Bank, who purchased the property in 2023, allege that the city has violated its own codes and procedures in pushing for the monument designation, which would prevent the couple from carrying out their plans to demolish the house and replace it with a larger property. They claim that the house does not meet the criteria for such a designation and argue that the city’s actions are causing irreparable harm to their property rights. The matter is currently making its way through the city’s internal processes, with City Councilwoman Traci Park having initiated a historic-cultural monument application last year. The case is due to be heard by the full City Council by mid-June.
