In response to injuries suffered by starting pitcher Emerson Hancock and reliever Tayler Saucedo, the Seattle Mariners have made some roster moves. On Wednesday, Hancock was demoted to Triple-A Tacoma, and Saucedo was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a hyperextended right knee sustained during a game the previous day. Hancock ended his most recent outing in Minnesota with four runs conceded in four innings, leaving him with a record of 3-3 and an ERA of 5.24 in seven starts, which included allowing six home runs in 34 1/3 innings. The team expects Bryan Woo to replace Hancock in the rotation when his turn comes around again on Sunday. Woo has yet to play this season due to an elbow injury. The Mariners also brought back Eduard Bazardo from the injured list and called up Kirby Snead from Tacoma to reinforce their bullpen. Snead is set to make his debut for the Mariners, becoming the franchise’s 1,000th player to appear in a game.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins announced that topa, who was traded from the Mariners earlier in the year as part of a deal involving Jorge Polanco, is experiencing further complications with his patella tendinitis following a rehab outing on Sunday. As a result, he is undergoing further medical evaluation.
During Wednesday’s game between the Mariners and Twins, Kirby pitched five innings, giving up four runs, although did not contribute to the Mariners’ scoreline. The team’s total of 22 quality starts, shared with the Philadelphia Phillies, leads the majors. The Mariners now face the challenge of replacing Saucedo, who has amassed a 2.70 ERA in 13 1/3 innings this season.
Looking ahead, the Red Sox designated infielder Zack Short for assignment as they promoted right-hander Naoyuki Uwasawa to Triple-A Worcester to create space on their roster. This move came after Boston’s successful use of Cal Raleigh’s pinch hit grand slam during Tuesday’s game, which played a significant role in the Mariners’ 10-6 victory over the Twins.
The Texas Rangers have yet to announce their rotation for their upcoming series against the Colorado Rockies, while the Athletics’ RHP Paul Blackburn is scheduled to kick things off for their clash with the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
Lastly, the Miami Marlins placed RHP Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list for the second time this season due to right shoulder impingement. Cabrera exited Tuesday’s game after just two innings. LHP Braxton Garrett returned from the injured list to fill his place.
