Mother Accused of Repeatedly Abusing Daughter on Flight, Previous Incident Cites Child Endangerment

Breanna Mistler, a 33-year-old mother from Sacramento, California, has been accused of mistreating her two-year-old daughter on a plane flying from Mexico to Seattle on May 1. According to federal court documents, Mistler repeatedly kicked and backhanded her young child after she woke Mistler up during the flight. The disturbance caused a commotion among other passengers, prompting some to intervene and protect the infant. Mistler reportedly responded by shouting, “Shut the f*** up,” and telling the other passengers to “mind your f***ing business.” This incident follows another instance of alleged child endangerment, which occurred in December, when Mistler allegedly brought her daughter to burglarize her mother’s house and damaged her mother’s tires. Due to the severity of these incidents, federal prosecutors have described the situation as “shocking,” especially given that it is the second such occurrence within a six-month period. Upon landing in Seattle, Mistler was apprehended by Customs and Border Protection officials, who observed visible injuries on the two-year-old. The Port of Seattle Police and the FBI then took over the investigation. The child was subsequently looked after by a victim witness specialist before being handed over to Child Protective Services. The presiding judge chose to keep Mistler in custody because of the public nature of the assaults, which occurred throughout the duration of the flight. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 16 and will entail a preliminary examination.
