In a shocking development, a prominent Japanese bread manufacturer, Pasco Shikishima Corporation, has announced the recall of over 100,000 packs of sliced bread due to the discovery of “rat parts” within the products. The company revealed this news on Wednesday and disclosed that they are currently investigating how these unwelcome guests found their way into the bread. Fortunately, as of yet, no individuals have reported falling ill from consuming the tainted bread.
Pasco Shikishima Corporation expressed deep remorse for any inconvenience caused to their customers and clients, and noted that they will work tirelessly to prevent such incidents from occurring again in the future. They have stated that they will enhance their quality control measures to guarantee that such occurrences will not arise once more.
The Pasco company acknowledged that the specific type of rat found in the bread was the black rat, also known as Rattus rattus. This particular species is widespread throughout Europe and Asia. Two separate packs of bread have been identified as containing these unsavory components.
This incident comes amid a string of food safety scandals that have plagued Japan’s economy, which has previously been recognized for the reliability of its food exports. Pasco Shikishima Corporation is a significant player in the industry, employing over 3,700 workers across 12 manufacturing plants throughout Japan.
In March, Japanese health officials ordered the withdrawal of three dietary supplements generated by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, a major pharmaceutical corporation, following the death of several users. Moreover, over 100 additional individuals have experienced adverse effects.
The recalled items do not include shipments destined for export markets. White bread is popular among Japanese consumers as a substitute for traditional cuisine during Western-style meals, also known as yoshoku.
