In addition to Ryan Pepiot being placed on the 15-day injured list with a bruised lower left leg, the Tampa Bay Rays may see the returns of other injured starting pitchers this season. Left-hander Jeffrey Springs, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, is scheduled for a simulated game on Thursday and an extended spring training game on May 20. Right-hander Shane Baz, who is also rehabbing following Tommy John surgery and a left oblique strain, is set to pitch in his second game with Triple-A Durham on Friday night. Meanwhile, righty Drew Rasmussen, who has undergone two previous Tommy John surgeries and recently had hybrid internal brace surgery on his throwing elbow, is projected to begin throwing off a mound later this month. Ace Shane McClanahan, who is currently recovering from his second Tommy John operation, is not expected to return this season. Right-hander Taj Bradley, who has missed all of this season due to a right pectoral strain, was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will start against the New York Yankees on Friday night.
