Sunak Condemns Antisemitic Abuse in University Protests Against Israeli Action in Gaza

In light of escalating protests against Israel’s military action in Gaza, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has urged an end to “antisemitic abuse” on UK university campuses. This follows the establishment of over a dozen protest encampments across institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge, initiated by pro-Palestinian activists demanding that universities sever ties with Israel. Whilst the demonstrations so far have remained largely peaceful, Jewish students have voiced anxieties concerning rising levels of antisemitism. Last year witnessed a dramatic surge in antisemitic occurrences on UK university campuses during the height of the conflict in the Middle East, according to the Communities Security Trust, an organisation dedicated to combatting antisemitism within Britain.
