In response to the growing concern about AI-generated content spreading misinformation on its platform, TikTok has announced that it will implement a new policy to label content created using artificial intelligence when it is uploaded from certain platforms. This move is part of TikTok’s effort to combat the spread of misinformation and ensure transparency for its users. According to Adam Presser, TikTok’s Head of Operations & Trust and Safety, the company recognizes both the excitement surrounding AI’s potential for creative expression and the need to ensure that users can distinguish between fact and fiction. Previously, TikTok encouraged users to label content that was either generated or significantly edited by AI, and required labeling for all AI-generated content containing realistic images, audio, and video. Other tech giants like YouTube and Meta Platforms (owners of Instagram and Facebook) have also committed to implementing similar measures to address the issue of AI-generated misinformation ahead of the upcoming U.S. Elections.
