Former President Donald Trump urged the House to put an end to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) attempt to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday evening. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump praised Greene’s “Spirit” and “Fight,” but emphasized that now is not the time for such an action. Greene’s motion to remove Johnson failed to gain enough support, with only 11 Republicans joining the majority of Democrats in rejecting the proposal. This move comes in response to Republicans’ discontent with Johnson’s support for a $95 billion foreign aid package, which they feel prioritizes international issues over domestic ones like securing the southern border. Trump warned against creating a perception of “chaos” within the Republican Party, stating that it could negatively impact election efforts later this year. He asked his fellow Republicans to vote in favor of “THE MOTION TO TABLE.” Ultimately, Trump lauded Johnson as a “good man who is trying very hard,” but acknowledged that there were certain actions he wished had been taken in recent months that still need to be addressed. However, Trump firmly believed that they could accomplish these tasks jointly.
