Uber forecast a slower quarterly revenue growth in its latest report, causing its shares to drop almost 7%. Shopify also saw a significant fall in its shares, dropping as much as 19% after guiding for revenue growth in the current quarter of a high teens percentage, which is lower than the typical mid-20s revenue growth Shopify has produced in previous quarters. The Federal Reserve policymakers’ commentaries have also influenced the market, with Fed officials such as Boston Fed President Susan Collins and New York Fed President John Williams warning that interest rates are likely to stay high for longer than “previously thought”. This decision is due to the recent data showing that improvements in supply chains that helped cool inflation quickly last year may not continue this year, and that slower economic growth will be required to bring down demand and therefore inflation.
