In a significant drug seizure in Thailand, police discovered over 700 pounds of ketamine hidden inside life-size Transformer robot statues. This follows a previous attempt by the same woman, who had been caught attempting to smuggle methamphetamine concealed within a food processing machine, to ship these statues to Taiwan. The woman allegedly paid approximately $4,800 to a shipping company to transport the statues, which were intended for display at a movie exhibition in Taiwan. Reports indicate that the drugs originated in Cambodia, and authorities claim to have identified further accomplices in Taiwan. Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Board has revealed that it has collaborated with both the Airport Interdiction Task Force and the Seaport Interdiction Task Force to prevent drug trafficking through airports and seaports nationwide. These efforts have resulted in the confiscation of over four tons of crystal methamphetamine, two tons of ketamine, and more than 580 pounds of heroin during recent raids. According to reports, the confiscated drugs would likely have ended up in profitable markets in neighboring areas such as Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The woman purportedly received instructions from another unknown woman based in Laos regarding the distribution of the drugs. Police Lieutenant General Phanurat Lhakbun stated that Thailand is currently experiencing a serious issue with transnational criminal organizations operating in various locations, utilizing Thailand as a hub to smuggle drugs into other nations via international cargo transportation by air or sea.
