Josh Duggar’s cousin Amy Duggar has expressed hopes that the disgraced reality TV star experiences “absolute torture” during his 12½-year prison sentence for child pornography offenses. In an interview with People, Amy, who features in a rival series ‘Our Wedding Story’, admitted: “I really hope that because what he watched and what he was viewing for his own fulfillment is those kids experiencing torture.” She went on to add she believes Duggar should face even harsher treatment inside jail than already arranged. His lawyers argued that because he’s already fathered six girls in a household of 19 children, being housed with women would not present an undue risk to them. The case was ultimately left to the discretion of correctional authorities when sentencing Judge Christy Comstock issued her order last month (March). “He deserves every second [inside jail]. And I hope he gets a longer term. I hope he messes up again,” Amy said, adding that she has not spoken with Duggar since his imprisonment began following December’s sentencing for possession of child pornography videos portraying the abuse of children aged five to 12. The allegations against him date back as far as 2006 when authorities received a tip from a family friend that accused him of molesting four sisters and a babysitter, although it was later determined statutes had expired on any possible charges at the time.
Duggar appeared alongside his father, mother, nine brothers and nine sisters in TLC reality series ’19 Kids And Counting’, from 2008 to its cancellation in May 2015 after renewed allegations of child molestation emerged. Duggar later apologised for marital infidelity and a pornography addiction, which led him to seek treatment.
In contrast with Amy’s views on the matter, Josh’s wife Anna has not spoken out in the public space following his sentence in December. Their seventh daughter was born around 35 weeks via emergency C-section after her husband surrendered ahead of sentencing hearings.
Amy revealed she last saw Anna at a funeral service in March 2023 and claimed their exchange left no doubt as to the status quo: “She needed space, that’s all she said.” She added: “I can’t speak for Anna but I understand what she has to deal with internally let alone out for the world to see. It is heartbreaking in every direction.”
Josh Duggar was sentenced to nearly 13 years behind bars on child pornography charges last December (20).
