Tesla Expands Charging Network with Federal Partnership for Zero-Emission Cars in California

In a bird’s eye view, Tesla electric cars can now recharge at charging stations that are part of the company’s supercharging network, thanks to its partnership with the U.S. federal government aimed at expanding electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across California. Gov. Newsom made this announcement recently, stating that “Tesla is opening its charging network to additional models of electric vehicles” as a part of efforts geared towards building out more public EV charging facilities in the state. As it stands today, there are around 105,000 publicly accessible chargers for EVs across California, with approximately 10,000 being fast-charging stations that can power up vehicles quickly. This is significant since Californians who opted for different automobile brands can also avail themselves of this service starting today without the need to buy Tesla’s products explicitly. Newsom’s move aligns with a broader strategy aimed at encouraging more people towards owning EV cars due, in part, to California Governor’s signing off an executive order last year requiring all new vehicles sold within its borders by 2035 must be zero-emission models.
